Why Should You Study At A B Corp Certified Business School?

- B Corp certification provides an external validation of business schools’ commitment to positive societal impact
- With over 10,000 B Corps now spread across 160 industries, business schools are moving to align educational offerings with industry trends and student demand
- Many current applicants are looking for institutions that align with their personal values. Certifications like B Corp provide proof that institutions walk their talk.
When tectonic plates shift, it’s seldom visible to the naked eye. Yet, over time, their gradual movement can reshape ecosystems. In much the same way, the landscape of international business is ever-changing, but leaps forward in its evolution typically emerge at milestone moments.
Such a milestone was passed in July 2025, when B Lab announced that more than one million people were employed at Certified B Corporations, also called “B Corp”.
Launched in 2006, B Lab is a non-profit that assesses companies across five key categories – governance, workers, environment, customers, and community – and awards B Corp certification to companies that are simultaneously achieving financial profit and a positive societal impact.
Almost 20 years later, the world is home to around 10,000 B Corp spread across 103 countries and over 160 industries. It’s a clear indication that, amid complex global challenges, organisations are turning en masse to more sustainable business practices.
Tasked with fostering the current and future generations of business leaders, business schools are becoming increasingly keen to achieve B Corp status, and a growing number have already done so.
The advantages are easy to understand. Certification offers schools external validation that they practice what they preach, both embedding values such as sustainability and ethical leadership in core curricula, and creating opportunities for students to learn by doing through impactful initiatives.
From a student perspective, this provides an additional guarantee that a school’s priorities align with their personal values, which evidence suggests is an important consideration for a significant portion of business school applicants.
According to Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) data, around 25 percent of prospective students are prompted to pursue graduate management education to do more for society. Furthermore, GMAC identifies roughly 12 percent of the candidate pipeline as “social impact champions”, for whom forging a career with positive societal impact is their defining motivation.
So, studying at a B Corp certified institution is likely to be especially important for candidates, whether their career paths lead toward social entrepreneurship and newer sustainability-shaped roles or into more traditional positions in management, finance or consulting.
And business schools that can offer additional evidence of their alignment with corporate responsibility and ethical leadership values will increase their appeal to talented students even more broadly.
Which business schools are B Corp certified?
POLIMI Graduate School of Management became the first business school in Europe to achieve B Corp certification in 2020. The decision to pursue B Corp status was motivated primarily by a desire to demonstrate the school’s commitment to building a better future for all.
“We want to take responsibility for inspiring and guiding change. It is, in fact, in places like universities and business schools that future managers meet, exchange ideas, engage in dialogue and grow,” says Federico Frattini, Dean of POLIMI GSoM.

The school has integrated societal impact into its postgraduate portfolio with specialised programmes such as the International Master in Sustainability Management, the International Master in Entrepreneurship and Design for Sustainability, and others.
Other initiatives provide opportunities for students and alumni to apply their skills through direct interaction with the surrounding community. For instance, the Leave Your Mark initiative is designed to allow professionals who studied at POLIMI GSoM to offer their skills pro bono to non-profits that play a role in building a more inclusive society.
Cambridge Judge Business School (CJBS) Executive Education announced its B Corp certification in 2024, a result of its dedication to empowering leaders to navigate complex challenges while championing sustainability, ethics, and social responsibility.
“This certification reflects our ongoing commitment to integrating sustainability and social responsibility into our programmes and operations. As a B Corp, we are part of a global movement of businesses working together to redefine success in business, not only in terms of financial performance but also in terms of our impact on people and the planet,” says Allison Wheeler-Héau, Director of Executive Education at CJBS.
The school offers executive education courses in a range of sustainability and corporate social responsibility topics, including Sustainability and Circular Economy, ESG Leadership Skills for Transition to Sustainable Business, and The Cambridge Leading Change Programme.
There are also offerings designed to support diversity in leadership positions, such as the Cambridge Rising Women Leader Programme. Delivered over three days, the course combines faculty-led discussions, structured exercises, peer exchange, and protected time for reflection.
Nyenrode Business University achieved B Corp status in 2025, becoming the 500th certified organisation in the Benelux and marking a major milestone in the school’s work to support a sustainable future by inspiring students and executive participants to develop into responsible leaders. Indeed, developing a sense of Stewardship has long been core pillar of the School’s mission and values.

“B Corp certification is more than recognition; it’s our commitment to continuous improvement. As a business university, we educate the leaders of tomorrow. This certification reinforces our mission – shaping responsible leaders for a sustainable future – and underlines the fact that we also take responsibility ourselves, in our policies, our education, our partnerships, and our impact on society,” says Micky Adriaansens, Chair of the Executive Board at Nyenrode.
Through its programme offerings and research, the university aims to empower leaders and organisations to navigate sustainable transitions and address complex challenges arising from emerging technologies and geopolitical uncertainty.
Responsible and ethical leadership is foregrounded in the Impact MBA, which includes individual support through the Personal Leadership Development Journey to support students in attaining the confidence and skills to navigate industries shaped by environmental consciousness and digital innovation.
EHL Hospitality Business School announced its B Corp certification in 2026, a milestone which the school views as the start of a long-term continuous improvement journey aligned with both B Corp’s evolving standards and the expectations of EHL’s own stakeholders.
“As a global reference in hospitality management education, EHL has always placed people at the centre of its mission. Preparing the next generation of leaders means equipping them to face tomorrow’s environmental and social challenges with responsibility while creating lasting value. We cannot credibly teach what we do not implement ourselves. We must walk the talk,” says Markus Venzin, CEO of EHL.
As a leading institution built on its commitment to service culture and positive human interaction, the school aims to support the deepening of sustainability commitments across the hospitality sector.
For instance, the curriculum of EHL’s MBA for Hospitality and Service Industries programme is designed to equip students with the strategic foresight, analytical clarity, and people-first leadership skills to elevate their impact within an organisation, make confident decisions, and engage their teams more deeply.
Sustainability topics are integrated in the suite of executive education programmes too, with a partnership between EHL and LVMH forming theLeading Sustainable Excellence in Luxury Retail & Hospitality programme, designed to empower the next generation of leaders to redefine luxury in a fast-changing world.
Will business schools continue to focus on sustainability?
As students increasingly gravitate toward institutions that will give them the skills to forge careers where they can achieve both financial success and positive societal impact, the importance of external certifications such as B Corp will continue to grow ever more important. But so too will the additional efforts that schools put in place to provide a means to contribute positively to the world around them, enhancing education and benefitting society.
Whether already certified or actively pursuing B Corp status, business schools are demonstrating their commitment to supporting positive societal impact through updated curricula, faculty research, and student and alumni initiatives.
Change continues to be a gradual process, but the passing of key milestones in B Corp certification demonstrates the sector has evolved in response to a world where success is based on multiple factors, not just the ability to generate profits.
